A credible partner search starts with a clear definition of fit and a transparent basis for moving candidates toward engagement.

Start with a precise search mandate

Define the business problem, intended role, customer segment, geography, required capabilities and commercial contribution. Separate non-negotiable requirements from preferences and specify evidence required to progress.

Map the market beyond the obvious names

Combine directories, company disclosures, trade events, customer references and expert input. Record the source, date and inclusion reason, and distinguish discovery signals from verified evidence.

Compare strategic and operational fit

Use a weighted scorecard covering strategic fit, customer access, delivery, coverage, management and compatibility. Add a written rationale, confidence level and critical gaps so the score supports rather than replaces judgment.

Replace assumptions with decision-grade evidence

Confirm identity, ownership, footprint, relevant experience and public risk signals. Label important statements as verified, management-reported, inferred or unknown and direct deeper due diligence toward decision-critical gaps.

Design an engagement strategy

Prepare the proposition, choose the appropriate introduction route and establish confidentiality rules. Use early discussions to test ambition, authority, resources and expectations while preserving alternatives until alignment is demonstrated.
